La Luna del Amazonas is a small ayahuasca center in the Peruvian Amazon, created for people who are looking for something real: authentic healing traditions, personal care, and a deep connection with nature.

We are not a luxury resort, and we do not try to turn this work into a polished spiritual product. What we offer is something simpler and, we believe, more valuable: an honest space where ancestral medicine is served with respect, humility, and care. Our work is guided by experienced Amazonian healers, supported by family, facilitators, and guardians who help hold the space with sincerity and devotion. This balance of tradition, safety, and human warmth is at the heart of everything we do.

Our Story

The roots of La Luna del Amazonas go a long way back, when local medicine men & woman was working from a small village clinic known as El Consultorio. What began as a humble place of healing for local people slowly grew, as more and more people came seeking help from the plants, the prayers, and the wisdom carried by the healers.

In 2016, that original seed expanded into what is now La Luna del Amazonas: a retreat space with private rooms, a traditional maloka, and an intimate healing circle for guests from Peru and around the world. Though the space has grown, the heart of the work has remained the same: to serve the medicine with seriousness, reverence, and fidelity to the traditions from which it comes.

The name came in a moment of silence after ceremony, when Enrique sat watching the moon above the jungle canopy and saw clearly what this place was meant to be: La Luna del Amazonas. Since then, the moon has remained our emblem — a symbol of quiet light, mystery, and transformation.

Our mission

Our mission is simple: to preserve and share the ancestral wisdom of ayahuasca with integrity, humility, and devotion.

We believe ayahuasca should be approached with respect. In a time when many retreats mix different plants, techniques, and modern spiritual trends, we choose a more traditional path. We do not believe in creating a “spiritual buffet.” We believe in going deeper with one plant, one current, one sacred relationship. For us, ayahuasca is not entertainment. She is a teacher, and she deserves reverence.

At the same time, tradition and safety must walk together. Every guest completes a health screening before arrival. Contraindications are reviewed carefully. Our ceremonies are supported by experienced facilitators, and a staff member trained in first aid is present at every ceremony. Because we are located on the river, transport to Iquitos is possible in less than an hour if ever needed.

How We Hold the Space

ealing at La Luna is not carried by one person alone. It is held by a circle.

Our shamans prepare the medicine, lead ceremonies, and sing the icaros. Facilitators help guests feel oriented and supported. Guardians maintain a quiet protective presence throughout the night. Our support team nourishes everyone with food, care, and attention to the practical details that make deep work possible. Together, these roles create the container in which healing can unfold.

Meet the Family

Don Benigno – Maestro

Don Benigno is one of the elder pillars of La Luna del Amazonas and one of the most respected traditional healers in the region. Known affectionately as the “Maestro de los Maestros,” he represents the old school of Amazonian vegetalismo. His path with ayahuasca began in childhood, and for decades he has dedicated his life to healing through ceremony, prayer, and the removal of energetic blockages. His presence is one of the foundations of our work.

Don Guido – Maestro

Don Guido, son-in-law and long-time apprentice of Don Benigno, has spent his life walking the healer’s path. Raised in a lineage of curanderos, he combines deep traditional knowledge with a calm, grounded way of meeting people from the modern world. He is able to diagnose, prescribe, and prepare plant dietas according to each person’s needs, while remaining deeply rooted in the discipline and humility of the ancestral tradition.

Don Leonardo

Don Leonardo grew up along the rivers of the Amazon, immersed in the rhythms of the forest and the healing knowledge of his family. Later guided by Don Benigno and Don Guido, he became an important part of the healing circle at La Luna. Guests often experience him as warm, steady, and deeply sincere, someone who helps bridge the ancient ways of the jungle with the needs of those who come seeking healing today.

Don Jack

Don Jack comes from a family of healers and carries the tradition with strength, humility, and heart. Known for his powerful icaros and distinctive ceremonial presence, he brings both skill and warmth to the circle. He is part of the new generation carrying the lineage forward without losing its essence.

Enrique

Originally from Sweden, Enrique has lived in the Amazon since 2015 and serves as a bridge between Western guests and Amazonian tradition. His role centers on guest care, translation, coordination, and safety. Before coming to the jungle, he worked in emergency response in Sweden, and he later trained further in first aid, CPR, AED, and psychedelic harm reduction. His path gives him a rare ability to help hold space in a way that is both human and practical.

The Wider Team

La Luna is also supported by family members, guardians, facilitators, translators, cooks, artists, and helpers who each contribute to the spirit of the place. Some support in ceremony, some through food, language, flower baths, music, or simple human presence. Together, they make La Luna feel less like a retreat business and more like a living community.

The Place

Our center is located deep in the jungle, near a small village, with the rainforest and river as our closest neighbors. The property sits directly on the riverbank, and the natural environment is not something separate from the healing work — it is part of it.

Our facilities include what is truly needed and little more. Guests stay in private rooms with private bathrooms and showers. Buildings are screened against mosquitoes, and extra netting is provided over the beds. There are shared spaces for rest and connection, hammock areas, canoes for the river, and a traditional maloka where ceremonies are held. The atmosphere is simple, natural, and grounded.

We do not offer marble floors, jacuzzis, or air conditioning. That is intentional. We believe the power of this place lies not in luxury, but in authenticity, humility, and closeness to nature. The jungle itself becomes part of the experience: the river, the sounds of the night, the open-air buildings, and the feeling of being received by something older and wiser than the modern world.

A Different Kind of Comfort

There is comfort here, but it is not the comfort of indulgence. It is the comfort of being cared for by real people. The comfort of a simple room after ceremony. The comfort of hearing the forest at night. The comfort of being held in a place where healing is approached with seriousness and heart.

What we may lack in material luxury, we try to offer in truth, connection, and integrity.

Walking the Path Together

At La Luna del Amazonas, you are not treated as a customer passing through. You are welcomed into a space shaped by family, tradition, and years of devotion to this work.

If you feel called to sit with ayahuasca in a place that is intimate, grounded, and deeply connected to the roots of Amazonian healing, we welcome you to walk this path with us.
