Your Safety Is Our Highest Priority
We have implemented serious safety protocols that our experienced healers, facilitators, and staff follow at all times.
Our Safety Protocol
- Small groups with a maximum of 10 participants per ceremony
- Full first aid kits at the center
- CPR and first-aid certified facilitators and staff
- Medical screening of all guests before participation
- Medical doctor in Iquitos available 24/7 with direct contact
- 24/7 transport to Iquitos from our center — travel time by speedboat: 40 minutes
- Fire extinguishers throughout the property
- Minimum one facilitator present at every ceremony, supervising and not drinking ayahuasca
- Aftercare in the maloka for as long as needed, provided by facilitators and healers
- Highly experienced shamans from a long lineage of healers with high ethics
- Facilitators with 500+ individual ceremonies and training in psychedelic harm reduction
- Our medicine is brewed on site with only fresh chacruna leaves and ayahuasca vine — nothing else is added
- Ayahuasca diet meals prepared by our experienced chef
- Program designed around your healing process with plenty of time for rest and reflection
- Integration work and support after your visit
In more than 10 years of operation, we have had to evacuate a guest to Iquitos only twice — both times as a precaution due to allergic reactions unrelated to the medicine. We take no chances with your wellbeing.
Medical Guidelines
Ayahuasca contains MAOIs which can have serious interactions with certain medications. Before booking, you must review the information below and consult with your doctor if you have any doubts.
Participation is not recommended for people with: severe cardiovascular conditions, uncontrolled hypertension, epilepsy or seizures, certain psychiatric conditions (such as psychotic episodes, borderline personality disorder, or bipolar syndrome), severe liver or kidney disease, pregnancy, or lactation.
Contraindicated medications include: antidepressants and other MAOIs, MDMA, antipsychotics, mood stabilizers, and other substances that affect the serotonergic system. If you are taking antidepressants, you may need to stop at least 2 to 6 weeks before the retreat — consult your doctor before making any changes to your medication.
You should not stop taking medication that has been prescribed by your doctor without their guidance. La Luna del Amazonas is not responsible for any decision to discontinue medication. If you have any doubt about whether you should participate, please discuss this with your doctor or therapist before booking.
